From the Mapping News Blog : "The imagery was collected by a team of Googlers who travelled all over New Zealand to document every single public road in the country over the past year. The team drove Holden Astras, which had cameras mounted on a pole on the roof."

Google Maps Revamps Its Interface 1 comment [+]
The official Google Lat Long blog informs us about the revamping of the Google Maps interface. From the entry: "For one thing, Pegman, our plucky mascot, is now close at hand wherever you go. He hangs out right on top of the zoom slider: [screenshot] To enter StreetView, drag Pegman to a street (or just keep zooming in all the way, and the lowest zoom level is now Street View imagery). Tip: if you hold Pegman over a location for a second, you'll see a preview of what it looks like."
Google Doubles US Coverage of Street View Imagery [+]
From the Google Earth Blog : "Today Google has doubled the amount of coverage for Street View imagery in the United Sates. Street View is now available in many new cities and states. New cities such as: Memphis, Birmingham, and Charleston, SC. And new states for the first time such as Maine, West Virginia, North Dakota and South Dakota. If you turn on the Street View layer in Google Earth, you can zoom around and get an idea of the scale of the amount of Street View coverage available now in Google Earth and Google Maps (you used to be able to get an overview in Google Maps of the Street View imagery, but I'm not sure how to do that with the newly designed maps interface). There is coverage in roads going between cities and in smaller towns now - not just the major cities."
