The What Is Special About Geospatial blog has an article and videos about using augmented reality with GIS. From their summary : "The application fields of augmented reality for spatial problems are very broad. The contain navigation, enviromental planning, etc. Object recognition is here also an issue. Currently many GI researchers are dealing with the topic of augmented maps."

Not quite sure what the article is trying to relay, but I will leave that up to those interested in this topic. Head on over to their blog for more information and the video.

Google Earth 5 Record Tour Notes [+]

The GEB share an informative entry if you want to go deep into the new 'Record Tour' feature of Google Earth 5. From the entry: "The Tour function is even more powerful if you delve into the Tour documentation, and much more powerful if you learn how to program Tours in the KML directly. Richard Treves has been reviewing the new Tour functionality from a user perspective as a design specialist. He has made several posts commenting on the good and bad of the new Tour function in GE 5 (see his posts: one, two, three)."   I'm a big fan of the augment reality domain and have long dreamed of tighter geospatial integration... oh, and some further deployment of AR in the "real world" :) I've always been inspired by Wayne's work at: http://tinmith.net/ [tinmith.net] (see videos and AR Quake videos too) - though perhaps a bit dated at the moment. Think of mobile geospatial AR as a mixture of 3D data with the 3D real world around you (or as in the article link, augmented 2d maps). The opportunities are huge, I agree...
