The What Is Special About Geospatial blog informs us about this. From their summary : "Today Google has integrated Streetview in Google Maps routing. If you generate a routing inside a city with Streetview you can see a camera. With a click on this camera a Streetview window is comming up where the street scene of the position is shown."

For more information and a link to see it in action, visit the blog link above. Remember, click on the camera next to the turn by turn direction to see the streetview representation of it. Update: 04/29 21:09 GMT by S :Here's the official Google Lat Long announcement.

StreetView GMaps API [Updated] [+]
The Digital Earth Blog brings us news about this new StreetView API. From the actual press release, here is a snippet : "We've worked hard to ensure that Street View in the API gives developers the power and control they need to embed this functionality in their own websites in whatever way they wish. The API allows you to embed one or multiple panoramas in any location on a site and move, remove, hide and unhide them as necessary. Panoramas can also be easily integrated with the rest of the Google Maps API to allow synchronization between the map and the panorama viewer. The blue tile layer overlays which show where Street View data is available can be added to your own maps using the GStreetviewOverlay class. The following example mimics the Google Maps functionality with the tile layer and rotating Street View icon"

On the Release of Google Earth 4.3 and More 3 comments [+]
Mentioned earlier this week, here's the official announcement and a description of a new feature, 3D building swooping. The release provoked a lot of reactions and writings in the geoblogs. Here's the GEB entries on his first impressions [with screenshots], a video demonstration, well worth the 6 minutes (really), a short explanation of the new navigation widgets and some final thoughts on GE 4.3. Ogle Earth also shares his comments and discuss the differences between atlases and mirror worlds. Interesting to note that not everyone is pleased with some of the changes, with GE being dubbed the AOL of the Geoweb. APB also links to a IW article on the practical uses of Google StreetView.

In other related Google geonews, there's new Google Transit cities and YouTube videos in Google Maps.
Display Locations on Your Android Camera Phone [+]
Aaron Bodbyl-Mast writes "Bruce Sterling highlights an intriguing app being developed for the Google Android Developer Challenge. The video provides a nice demonstration of the app, as well as a description of future plans for the technology including integration of a gyroscope and the use of 3d buildings models. I think this is just of the type of iceberg. I also imagine that we will be seeing a similar concept integrating GPS and Street View. As the Instapundit would say: Bring it on!" The name of the project is Enkin, and the video over the URL above explains clearly what it's all about. It is so interesting that I'm pretty sure we'll see that kind of tool widely offered on phones in a few years. Previous Android stories copied below.

While this is an interesting way to integrate the various Google technologies, I don't see it as anything monumentally awesome or groundbreaking. In fact I've been noticing a trend over the past few months that anything having to do with Google products gets massive press, even if it is unwarranted. In this particular case it is compounded by the fact that the syntax and grammar in the snippet are non-existent. Don't get me wrong, I love Google just as much as anyone else, if not more, but lets not let this degenerate into the same phenomenon as with Apple products.

Google is approaching 1907, although with color pictures. Lauren Weinstein a while ago mentioned [pfir.org]:

Back when the automobile was a relatively new consumer product, and conventional road maps were yet to be developed, Rand McNally published what were called Photo-Auto Maps, showing photos of streets and landmarks, with arrows pointing you to the correct path leading toward your destination.
