pvachon writes "MDA and the Canadian Space Agency have released the first images acquired from RADARSAT-2 to the public. The sample images include two quad polarized images, demonstrating the polarimetric SAR capabilities of RADARSAT-2, as well as an ultra-fine scene of Vancouver, highlighting the level of detail seen in ships, as well as the improved resolution over the Vancouver airport versus that of RADARSAT-1." A few related stories below, including the December 14th successful launch.

Canada's space technology sold to U.S. : leaving black hole 1 comment [+]
From an article of the Ottawa Sun in Canada : "Radarsat is one of the world's most sophisticated Earth surveillance satellites, able to zoom in on objects as small as 10 metres on land or sea, 'snapping' clear pictures through dense cloud and even at night. Canadian taxpayers have invested $445 million directly in the latest Radarsat, or about 85% of the total cost. Less than 30 days after Radarsat II made orbit in December, MDA has just sold the whole thing lock, stock and solar panels as part of its deal with U.S. Alliant."
