Several Google geonews in the last few days. Let's start with fresh new imagery for Google Earth, answers are found here. There's also Antarctica which received attention (previous post). Panoramio's geotagged photos are now searchable. There's also a showcase of the Google Earth Outreach program (previous post). And why not enhancements to the 3D warehouse. And new support in the Google Maps API for Google Sky, Moon and Mars data. And finally, a minor Google Earth patent.

The Official Google Blog informs us Google purchased Panoramio. From the blog: "Panoramio is a community photos website that enables digital photographers to geo-locate, store and organize their photographs -- and to view those photographs in Google Earth. Other users can search and browse Panoramio photos and suggest edits to the metadata associated with the photos. Panoramio also offers an API that enables web developers to embed Panoramio functionality into their websites. [...] This layer will remain in place as our teams work together toward further integrating this amazing content, generated by many, into our mapping technologies." And last but certainly not least, we tossed in scientific charts that are good enough for actual mission planning and science classrooms alike." See related stories below, including about NASA World Wind's 3D moon and Google Mars.
