The official Google Lat Long blog informs us they added a layer in Google Earth to show geolocated YouTube videos. This is not a surprise. From the official blog: "Now you can find YouTube videos connected to specific locations right in Google Earth. Our new browseable layer of geotagged videos works a lot like our Google Book Search layer, only it shows you the locations referenced in specific videos instead of books. Let's say you're jetting off to Paris. Before you go, you can watch the sunset filmed from the top floor of the Eiffel Tower, among other clips of popular spots in the City of Lights." Meanwhile, the GEB informs us: "Important caveat: on Windows you can view the video embedded inside the placemark description bubble (GE version 4.2+ only), but with the Mac or Linux you will have to click on a screenshot from the video and view the video in your browser instead."

Google Adds Mapping to YouTube

The Google Earth Blog discuss the implications of mapping capabilities to the YouTube video service. From the blog: "But, given the ability of Google Maps to show video clips inside placemark descriptions, it can't be that long before they have an ability to show YouTube videos based on location in Google Maps. In fact, I'm sure they are somehow creating KML files associated with the locations of the videos and will be able to show videos tied to a search for a location. There will be even more possibilities when they can have a KML network link to show video locations in either Google Earth or Google Maps."
Technology: Truly Synchronized Video/Map Playback
[+]
An anonymous voxel writes "www.veogeo.com is a community based Google Maps / YouTube mashup site that allows users to upload and view truly synchronized video and gps tracks. Rather than simply ‘geotagging’ your videos, VeoGeo allows you to watch your video, while knowing exactly where you were at any point. Uses include sharing trail information (mountain biking, hiking, four wheel driving), tourism applications (tourist walks, drives, boating etc), motorsport applications... It’s in early Beta at the moment to test the concept. Do you think the idea has merit? What advantages does fully synchronised video/maps give over simple geotagging? What other applications might there be?"
YouTube Becomes Location Aware
[+]
All Points Blog has a New York Times article about this new feature. From their summary : "The New York Times describes the new features which allows video creators to learn when and where their creations are being watched. The program called YouTube Insight provides daily updates down to the state level in the U.S. and by country in the rest of the world. Geographic data is provided in thematic maps. No word yet that I've found on which is being used to determine location of the viewer, but there are many options."

Seero - Putting Video on the Map
[+]
Introduced over the geoblogs about a month ago, Seero is a new tool to broadcast geolocated videos. From the GEB description: "hat I find interesting is Seero's ability to not only share location of a video (like the geotagging of YouTube videos), but you can actually play the Video alongside a GPS track and see the changing location on a dynamically updating Google Map mashup. I'm not sure of the utility of live broadcasting for this medium, but they also support playing them back from archives. " I think the first one to mention Seero is Ogle Earth, additional information can be found in another Ogle Earth entry and over APB, mentioning KML support as well as this informative GEB entry.
