Technology: Leica Rolling Out a Virtual Globe named TITAN
[+]
Ogle Earth discuss the upcoming virtual globe TITAN from Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging. I also received the invitation and already shared my comments with Leica. First main gripe: it's Windows only. Since we're theoretically not allowed to discuss the app and the screenshots (but nothing was signed), I'll leave this task to others. From Ogle Earth: "Leica TITAN Key Features:
· Load and visualize imagery, vector data and 3D models to create your own ‘MyWorld’
· Add live camera feeds, news feeds, pictures and publish to your ‘MyWorld’
· Chat with other users within the TITAN network and view their ‘local’ data on your desktop
· Create flight path movies and share and publish to your ‘MyWorld’
· Publish a ‘MyWorld’ and view its content on your custom web page
· Create and integrate custom scripts to build unique applications
· Publish a WMS which can be consumed other OGC WMS compliant applications" Update: 12/21 20:38 GMT by S :All Points Blog details the context of this announcement.

New ECW EULA from ERMapper / Leica 3 comments
[+]
Stefano Costa writes "ERMapper, after being recently acquired by Leica, has changed the license for their ECW SDK to a common EULA [End-User License Agreement]: http://www.ermapper.com/ProductView.aspx?t=228 (the complete text for the EULA can be received via e-mail from ERM). It's interesting to see what it going to happen now that users are "granted the rights to use the ER Mapper Image Compression SDK for evaluation purposes only" if they didn't get a license from ERMapper. ECW is one of the most widespread formats for webmapping of high-resolution imagery data." Can anyone shares insights on how this could affect ECW users?
