Having finally catched up the latest geonews, here's a few interesting recent Directions Mag articles. There's an article on why location-based services applications fail. Then another on the future of the USGS for 2007. Another on intelligent reserve geocoding and location-based services and a last one on a OGC demonstration of sensor web decision support services.

Jeff at Vector One opens an interesting discussion about the USGS restructuration. From Vector One: "One can only assume that an assessment and decision to move all operations of the USGS together was motivated by higher government needs. In fact, there is indication that the cheapest alternative may be to leave the current organisation as it exists."

The four specs are: Sensor Model Language, TransducerML, Sensor Observation Service, Sensor Planning Service.

The GEOBlog (spanish) links to a Geospatial Solutions article on the location intelligence and business. From the article: "According to the results, which were released by MapInfo and BusinessWeek on Wednesday, 64 percent of business executives believe that location intelligence can improve business processes. [...] Approximately 80 percent of data that an organization uses to make business decisions has a location-based component. [...] According to a BusinessWeek white paper that was developed from the survey results, British Telecom will realize cost savings of $41 million over the next five years as a result of implementing a location-intelligence solution for its 17,000 field service engineers."
