Geotagged Photo Browsing Tools for Google Earth

The Google Earth Blog discuss different ways to browse geotagged photos in Google Earth, especially those found on Flickr. From the blog: "But, as more people start geotagging their photos, and more cameras come out with built-in GPS/geotagging capabilities, we will see a lot larger number of photos. The idea of showing rated photos is a particularly useful concept and will become important as we get larger numbers of photos geotagged." He also mentions Picasa 2.5 Beta photo geotagging capabilities.

Ed Parsons was first to tells us about Geophoto, a geocoding photo software allowing geolocated photo browsing and sharing. From the site: "Using Geophoto, you can also fly through the pictures taken by a vast community of people around the globe, who share them through Photocasts or through Flickr: the "geotagged" photos that contain location information will automatically appear on the Earth." Your Picasa photo albums exported to KML in Google Earth? Consider this done. From the Ogle Earth blog, in addition to Picasa web albums (CNET and Google Blogoscoped), geotagged photos will be exported directly in Google Earth. From the blog: "We'll have to await a formal announcement to see wether this also heralds server-hosted My Places for Google Earth, in addition to Picasa photos. It would certainly be in keeping with the direction Google has been heading in for its most recent launches." Also, from a GB comment: "you can Geotag your pictures in Google Earth, automatically creating a KML file with no need to know programming. I could see people sharing picture tours using [Picasa] and KML, and sharing the link via Google Maps." Here's the official announcement (web sharing).
Technology: Picasa Web Albums Integration with Google Maps and Earth [+]
The Google Earth Blog discuss the new photo geocoding capabilities of Picasa Web Albums. Picasa, the application, was already able to to geocode photos in collaboration with Google Earth. From the official blog;: "First, we're excited to let you know about 'Map My Photos' -- it lets you show exactly where you took your favorite snapshots. When you share an album with friends, they can see your best photos arrayed on a map (or even Google Earth). It's the perfect way to showcase a memorable road trip or a globe-trotting vacation. [...] But wait! There's more. We're also launching the first version of Picasa Web Albums built specifically for mobile devices." Meanwhile, Ogle Earth compares this new offering with Flickr and Panoramio.
